Named appropriately for a district of furniture shops, the St. Joseph the Workman Parish in Sampalukan embodies the industrious and courageous spirit of its patron saint. The community’s religious life began in 1935 through civic organizations like “Patnibay ng Nayon,” eventually evolving into a formal chapel under San Roque Parish that served as a central hub for meetings and monthly masses. Disaster struck just before Christmas in 1983 when a devastating fire leveled the newly renovated structure and the surrounding neighborhood, testing the faith of the residents. Demonstrating the resilience of the carpenter saint, the people rebuilt from the ashes, leading to the official canonical erection of the parish by Cardinal Jaime Sin on April 8, 1994. Today, the parish stands as a powerful symbol of a community that refused to be defeated by tragedy, transforming their charred remains into a thriving testament to divine providence and hard work.
