Established on August 21, 1963, by Cardinal Rufino Santos, the Saint Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Malabon began under the leadership of Msgr. Pacifico Maria Mendoza, who faced the immense challenge of building a community without a physical church. In its earliest days, the congregation held masses in hospitals and private lawns until a lot was secured in 1964, where parishioners initially worshipped in a doorless, pew-less structure. Through the formation of the first Parish Pastoral Council in 1966, a permanent church was completed over five years, accompanied by a unique novena and image of Saint Gabriel designed by Msgr. Mendoza himself. Over the decades, the parish has been served by a long succession of dedicated priests and monsignors, evolving from its “nothing” beginnings into a well-established center of faith.
