Established on November 21, 1988, to serve the residents of Santolan, Maysilo, and Panghulo, the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish began in a small chapel near Malinta Bridge before securing a permanent 6,000-square-meter site donated by the Religious of the Good Shepherd (RGS) sisters. Under the transformative leadership of its second parish priest, Rev. Fr. Donardo S. Bermejo, the community shifted from passive attendance to active involvement through the creation of Basic Ecclesial Communities and robust theological formation programs. This spiritual growth fueled rapid physical expansion, turning a makeshift chapel into a thriving complex that now includes a school, a medical-dental clinic, a lending cooperative, and an ossuary. Blessed by Cardinal Jaime Sin in 1995, the parish stands today as a model of how spiritual empowerment and community unity can manifest in both profound social services and a vibrant, jam-packed liturgical life.
