The Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Bagong Barrio began in 1964 as a modest chapel in the home of Barrio Captain Cristituto Gali before expanding into a network of local area chapels. Following a community petition, it was canonically erected as an independent parish in 1972 by Cardinal Santos, initially under the title of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Under its first priest, Fr. Jose Fajardo, the church structure was expanded and several mandated lay organizations were established to strengthen the community’s spiritual foundation. In 1975, leadership was transferred to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI), who introduced the Basic Christian Community model and successfully petitioned Cardinal Sin to restore the parish’s original name, Birhen ng Lourdes, in 1976.
